Mat Care Guide

Your BODHIS mat is made with natural materials and thoughtful design to support you through every breath, pose, and moment of stillness. With a little care, it will stay with you for years to come. This page will guide you through the best ways to clean, store, and maintain your mat so it continues to feel like a supportive, calming space every time you roll it out.

How to Clean Your Mat

Keeping your mat clean helps maintain its grip, appearance, and longevity. It also makes your practice more enjoyable and keeps your mat feeling fresh.

After each use: Wipe your mat down with a soft, damp cloth to remove surface sweat and oils. This simple step can help prevent buildup and keep the surface feeling smooth and steady.

For a deeper clean: Mix a few drops of mild detergent with warm water. Dampen a soft cloth or sponge with the solution and gently wipe the surface. Avoid soaking your mat or using too much water, especially around the edges. Rinse with a clean damp cloth and let it air dry completely.

Avoid harsh cleaners: Steer clear of alcohol-based products, essential oils, or any heavy-duty cleaning sprays. These can damage the mat's PU surface and reduce its grip over time.

Drying: Always allow your mat to air dry completely before rolling it up. Lay it flat with the top side facing up. Keep it out of direct sunlight, as UV exposure can cause fading and premature wear.

How to Store Your Mat

Proper storage can help extend the life of your mat and keep it looking and feeling great.

Roll your mat with the top (PU) layer facing outward. This helps prevent curling at the edges and keeps the surface smooth.

Store your mat in a cool, dry place. Avoid direct sunlight and areas with high humidity.

If you're not using your mat for a while, consider storing it flat or hanging it up to avoid creases or pressure marks.

Things to Avoid

To keep your mat in its best condition, we recommend avoiding the following:

Oils & lotions: Try to avoid using oils, body butters, or lotions on your hands and feet just before practice. These can leave marks on the surface and affect grip.

Scrubbing or abrasive materials: Don’t use stiff brushes or abrasive sponges on the surface. Your mat is naturally grippy and doesn’t need heavy cleaning.

Folding: Always roll your mat—folding it can lead to creases or cracks in the surface.

Natural Wear & Patina

Over time, your mat may develop gentle marks, creases, or signs of use. This is completely normal and part of the beauty of practising on natural materials. These subtle signs are a reminder of the time you’ve spent showing up for yourself. They don’t affect performance and are part of the story your mat carries with you.

Each mat is unique, and with proper care, it will age gracefully and continue to support your practice in both form and feeling.
